Frani imparts strong symbolic significance to his technique. He employs a smooth, white lacquered board, fin- ishing it with either a glossy or matte surface. Intervening with glazes, he utilizes the oil color “nero avorio” and, using minimal layers of color, achieves a gradation of mid-tones until reaching absolute black. He deliberately avoids painting areas that need to retain the maximum degree of light, preserving the integrity of the back- ground surface. The light of objects or landscapes then reemerges from the background, seamlessly merging into space. Frani extracts objects from the white background, from a light that transforms into material, drawing a parallel with our own existence emerging from light. In his recent works, the artist aims to capture the emer- gence of things into the light, often pulverizing images, attempting to convey the precise moment when light assumes a tangible form, becoming matter.
